as well as general eye care.
He is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and a Fellowship-Trained Surgeon in Cornea, External Disease
& Refractive Surgery. Dr. McMann has extensive training and experience in Cornea and Refractive

Dr. McMann has over 10 years of experience in Ophthalmology and brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise
to every patient under his care. Dr. McMann has been involved in all aspects of eye surgery, to include
teaching and lecturing fellow physicians, and has conducted research in an extensive array of vision
correction techniques and procedures.
Dr. McMann earned his degree in medicine from The Pritzker School of Medicine at The University of Chicago,
which is consistently ranked as a top 10 medical school in the United States by US News & World Report.
Upon graduation from medical school, he entered active-duty service in the US Army Medical Corps where he
spent eight years as a US Army Physician and Ophthalmologist. Dr. McMann completed his formal Ophthalmology
Internship and Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis in Washington State, the largest and
busiest Ophthalmology Service in the US Army.
During his service as a US Army physician, he played an integral role in developing the Warfighter Refractive
Eye Surgery Program at Madigan Army Medical Center. As one of the founders of Madigan's refractive surgery
center, Dr. McMann had the LASIK surgery procedure himself, performed by his friend and colleague Dr. Vernon
Parmley, M.D., in June 2002. As a teaching staff member at Madigan Army Medical Center, Dr. McMann was awarded
the high honor of the Golden Apple Award in 2002. This award is bestowed upon the best teaching staff in the
Ophthalmology Residency Program.
In July 2005, Dr. McMann began Fellowship-Training in Cornea, External Disease & Refractive Surgery at Emory
University in Atlanta, Georgia, a highly coveted and world-renowned fellowship. As part of this Fellowship-Training,
Dr. McMann became skilled in advanced corneal transplant surgeries including the new Descemet's Stripping
Endothelial Keratoplasty also known as DSEK or DSAEK. Dr. McMann also honed his skills in advanced cataract
surgery techniques to include the new multifocal, toric, and phakic intraocular lenses (IOL) commonly referred
to as Premium IOL's. He also learned advanced refractive surgery techniques and diagnosis as a member of
Emory's Refractive Surgery Center. As part of Fellowship Training, he played an instrumental role in the evaluation
and treatment of complicated surgical cases referred from other ophthalmologists throughout the country.
Upon completion of Fellowship-Training, Dr. McMann relocated to Oahu, Hawaii in August, 2006 where he plans to
remain for the duration of his career. While the McMann Eye Institute was in the planning and development
stages, Dr. McMann was employed by the Dept. of Defense as a full-time contract Ophthalmologist at Tripler
Army Medical Center until July, 2008. Dr. McMann performed many surgical procedures on soldiers from all
branches of military service, having performed the first Descemet's Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSEK)
at Tripler Army Medical Center.
To date, Dr. McMann has performed over 5,000 surgical procedures. He has also performed LASIK on many physicians
and their spouses making him the trusted choice for Refractive Surgery amongst his peers.
His spouse, Leah McMann, MD, is currently active duty in the US Army Medical Corps, and is the only Pediatric
Urologist at Tripler Army Medical Center which serves Hawaii and the Pacific Rim. Dr. Leah McMann is Filipina
and has family roots within the Hawaii community; they have two sons, Ryan & Riley.
