Michael A. McMann, M.D., the Founder and Medical Director of the
McMann Eye Institute, specializes in surgical
and medical management of corneal disorders, cataract, and
refractive surgery as well as general eye care. |
He is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and a Fellowship-Trained
Surgeon in Cornea, External Disease & Refractive Surgery. Dr.
McMann has extensive training and experience in Cornea and
Refractive surgery. His surgical and clinical expertise includes
advanced techniques for cataract surgery, corneal
transplantation surgery, anterior segment reconstruction, and
management of corneal and external diseases.
He is the
only surgeon in Hawaii to successfully implant an FDA-approved
eye telescope, the first in Hawaii, at the Queen's Medical
Center in Honolulu. The first-of-its-kind telescope implant is a
new patient care program for treating patients with end-stage
age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the most advanced form
of AMD and the leading cause of blindness in older Americans. |

Melanie Masaki, O.D., Licensed Optometrist |
Dr. Melanie Masaki, O.D. is a local girl, born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She attended Moanalua High School where she was active in the marching band and student government. She went on to receive her undergraduate degree from the University of Washington (Go Huskies!) and Doctorate of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry in Oregon.

Dr. Masaki has been with the McMann Eye Institute since 2010. Prior to that, she spent 10 years in private optometric and ophthalmology practices.
She has extensive experience in family eye care, including pediatrics and geriatrics. She performs diabetic exams and is skilled in refractive and cataract surgery co-management. Dr. Masaki also specializes in fitting contact lenses, including soft torics and bifocals, gas permeable and the new scleral lenses.
Licensed in the State of Hawaii, her training and experience allow her to diagnose, treat and manage all types of eye conditions. She has received the Honolulu Advertiser's "Best of the Best" Optometrist award a number of times for her dedication to her patients and profession. Professional memberships include the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Hawaii Optometric Association (HOA).
